The action film market, with hits like KGF, Pushpa, and Kill, has become saturated with male-led stories. It’s time to bring more female-driven action films to the forefront. While we do have movies like NH10, Naam Shabana, and Raazi, they often lack the same intensity and raw ferocity typically seen in male-led action films. The cold-bloodedness in these films is missing.
In the recent teaser for Ghaati, Anushka Shetty delivers a chilling performance, mercilessly beheading her target with a fierce, unflinching gaze. Her powerful strides and brutal actions leave viewers with goosebumps, setting the bar for intense, female-led action films.
Quotation Gang is another A-rated female-led action film starring Jackie Shroff and Sunny Leone that was released earlier this year but couldn’t find its audience due to a lack of proper promotion. The film failed because of multiple reasons but remains an extremely brave attempt towards creating experimental female-led films.
Another recent release, Jigra, featuring Alia Bhatt, fell short in this genre due to a lack of intensity. The character lacked the conviction needed to portray a ruthless killer, resulting in an underwhelming attempt. But Ghaati’s trailer has raised the bar of expectation as we see Anushka Shetty’s spine-chilling performance.
A-rated female-led action films could be the next big thing for Indian cinema and the audience is all here for it.
