Can Jeet’s Chengiz Really Revive The Bengali Commercial Cinema?

Jeet is the one superstar we look up to when we expect some spine-chilling action and a mass masala entertainer in Bengali. When the Bengali film industry is focusing more on Artsy films and many stars from mainstream commercial cinema are gradually shifting towards the new ‘Mix genre’, Jeet is the one actor who has been consistent with his commercial movies.

Jeet has always been unapologetic about the type of films he does and he has always gracefully belonged to the genre and impressed the huge fan base he has. But the audience is changing, and there is no doubt that a major part of the audience that previously used to gasp and pant while seeing Jeet doing his action sequences, is deriving a greater pleasure in watching the so-called intellectual cinema. It is indeed a difficult job for Jeet to regain the attraction of his old fan following. Jeet usually remakes films from the South Indian industries and many of them are huge hits. But as the exposure to South Indian films is increasing day by day the films are gaining popularity all over India, so, it is difficult to say whether the old audience will accept the remakes in the same way or not.

The trailer of ‘Chengiz’ has been released today and for a change, the film will be released in Hindi as well. It is a good attempt to make a pan-Indian film but the makers could have focused more on the quality of the film. Some audiences are appreciating the effort while some are downright disappointed with the execution. Chengiz will star Jeet in another regular gangster thriller where he rises to immense power from a rather insignificant background. The film is directed by Rajesh Ganguly and the acclaimed filmmaker Neeraj Pandey has worked with him on the story. So, we can expect quite a uniqueness in the story.

It will be really tough for the film to deliver up to the expectations, and if the Hindi version really reaches its suitable audience and is liked by them, it will be a historical event without any doubt.
