Can Kantara Repeat RRR’s Success On Netflix Globally?

Kantara (Hindi) is coming tomorrow on Netflix India. Just like RRR, the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam versions are streaming on some other platforms while Netflix managed to grab the rights of the Hindi version.

While both films are highly celebrated, they were meant primarily for the theatrical experience. Even after that, their OTT release was highly anticipated by the masses and they most certainly dominated their respective platforms for weeks.

RRR is not only one of the most successful Indian films on Netflix but also globally. It is the only film on the platform that kept trending in the top 10 globally for 15 weeks non-stop.

Now the question is, with the bar so high, can Kantara repeat the success of RRR on the platform?

There can be two responses for the same. In India, RRR was far bigger a theatrical success than Kantara. It means the number of people who had watched RRR before its theatrical release was too great in comparison to Kantara.

Thus more people are waiting to watch Kantara on OTT than RRR.

But there is a second aspect too. Kantara hardly has half the global buzz of RRR. It is because of the fact that Kantara is much more rooted in Indian culture. It is not as visually stunning as RRR, thus it won’t appeal that much to the global audience.

So the bottom line is, Kantara has much more chance of higher buzz within the Indian territory but on a global scale, Kantara has almost an impossible challenge to fathom.
