Can Karthi’s Sardar Being Too Similar To Cobra Affect Its Business?

The teaser for Karthi’s Sardar has a striking similarity to Vikram’s Cobra released just a few days back. The Tamil espionage thriller is written and directed by P.S Mithran and produced by S. Lakshman. It is slated to release on the 24th of October on Diwali.

There is suddenly a boom in spy stories in the movie industries and multiple films based on spies have this year. Parineeti Chopra’s ‘Code Name Tiranga’ is on a R.A.W agent who goes on a mission abroad for eliminating some threat to her country and is challenged by difficult situations. Vikram’s ‘Cobra’ was released after too much wait and it follows the story of a spy who has to get into disguises and camouflages to hide his identity for the sake of securing his mission.

The themes in ‘Sardar ‘ are similar to ‘Cobra’. The protagonist has to go to some other country for a mission, he is looked after by the police, there is too much elevation to his intelligence and skills, and he manages to get out of any situation by his ability to get into the guise of some other person. The teaser of Cobra was released one year ago and it was almost exactly the same as the current trailer of ‘Sardar’. Karthi’s character, code-named ‘Sardar’ camouflages himself into playing six different men for the success of his mission. He is seen to be captive in Bangladesh and he most probably will escape by getting into the look of someone else.

Karthi looks impressive in the teaser, the visuals are good. But there is a high risk for the business of the film if it is way too similar to a film released just a few days back.
