As of late, event films of different film industries have been doing well all over India irrespective of the language barrier.
S.S.Rajamouli gave the Telugu industry three event films that shook the whole Indian Film Industry. Kannada Industry’s highly anticipated ‘KGF-2’ had the highest opening day collection for a film in Hindi. Bollywood’s juggernaut film ‘Brahmastra‘ was released recently with enormous buzz around it. Its weekend numbers are huge and is doing well even in Telugu states. Now, all eyes are set on the Tamil Industry and PS-1.
Set to release on 30th September this year, the movie is expected to be Tamil Film Industry’s event film that will do well all over India. ‘Ponniyin Selvan‘ is being called Tamil Industry’s ’70 year old dream’. With a skilled director, an ensemble cast, a dedicated fanbase for the source material, and a humongous budget, the movie seems to have blockbuster written all over it.
PS-1 has great buzz in Tamil Nadu and the trailer was received exceedingly well. While Tamilians wait for the film adaptation of the beloved literature, the same excitement is not there in the other states and that is worrying. The buzz for the film at ground level is nothing big outside Tamil Nadu.
A big chunk of the previous event films’ collections came from their non-native states. Despite the calls for boycott and mixed reviews from the critics, Brahmastra has seen record-breaking turnouts, even in Telugu-speaking states.
With the release date drawing near, the team has to up its promotional tactics in the other languages to ensure the big opening day and weekend numbers. Will PS-1 do the same and become the next pan-indian hit irrespective of the mixed talks in media is what has many intrigued.
