Parasite—an Oscar-winning Korean film directed by Bong Joon-ho—captivated audiences worldwide. Some chose to experience it in its original language, while others watched it dubbed in English or their preferred language. But imagine an English adaptation of the film.
It doesn’t quite feel right, does it?
While the story may be the same, the background and the essence of the film might get lost in the process of adaptation.
This is the same concern fans raised when they heard about the collaboration between Warner Bros. and CJ ENM, a producer for many South Korean films like Parasite.
Some call it Hollywood’s lack of originality, while others think this venture will only be successful if Warner Bros. and CJ ENM come together to create new original stories. Fans are convinced that Warner Bros. will cook up the most mediocre remakes of original films, comparing it to the American remake of the classic film Oldboy.
There is no point in adapting old stories that are already loved by a vast audience worldwide.
Korean films with English subtitles have been performing very well so far but adapting them is a different story altogether.
This deal seems like it will benefit Warner Bros. more than it will benefit CJ ENM. Although Korean remakes of English films might work better with the niche audience as well.
Ultimately, the audience can only wait to see how this collaboration blooms and how its success comes forth.

This deal would have been good if they were working on new original films together, but no one is interested in just remakes of movies that they've already seen and love.

Nothing like those originals though. I don't even bother watching there remakes now because they don't capture the brilliance of the original work. The only remake on that list I saw was Oldboy and it was ok. Original is GOATED.

Oh dear. Oldboy remake was a pointless disaster so why would they try again? Memories of murder and parasite both brilliant movies and absolutely no need for a remake..
