Captain Trailer: Will It Be India’s Answer to Arnold’s Predator?

Talented Indian actor Arya, who enthralled us with his spellbinding performance in last year’s acclaimed period boxing drama ‘Sarpatta Parambarai’, is all geared up for his next film titled ‘Captain’. The film’s poster featuring the dashing actor along with a formidable creature had brought back fond memories of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 1987 creature sci-fi action horror film ‘Predator’. Being touted as a high-octane and intense action movie, the curiosity quotient around the trailer of ‘Captain’ was at its peak and now that the trailer is out, let’s see what it tells us about the film.

‘Captain’ trailer starts off with an aerial view of a North-eastern border town where the action-packed goings-on apparently take place. Arya is portrayed as a tough soldier and along with his team, he is sent on a covert mission to track a mysterious killer creature which is suspected to be of an alien origin. The creature’s resemblance with the alien antagonist in Arnold’s ‘Predator’ is striking and obvious.

‘Captain’ has been helmed by Shakti Soundar Rajan, who had made his directorial debut with the heist thriller flick ‘Naanayam’. The filmmaker is known for his unique filmmaking approach. For instance, his second film ‘Naaigal Jaakirathai’ featured a dog as a protagonist while his third directorial project ‘Miruthan’ was the first Tamil language zombie horror movie. Similarly, ‘Teddy’ (also featuring Arya) featured an animated teddy bear in the titular role.

But the question is: Can ‘Captain’ be India’s answer to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cult film ‘Predator’? It’s apparent from the film’s trailer that the makers have made an effort to make a decent creature action flick for Indian audiences. Although the trailer is rather underwhelming compared to the high expectations, and the special effects/VFX shown in the trailer are just about average, the final verdict will be out next month. Meanwhile watch the ‘Captain’ official trailer below.

‘Captain’ is slated to release in theatres on 8th September 2022. Besides Arya in the lead role, the film also features Aishwarya Lekshmi, Simran, Harish Uthaman, and Kavya Shetty, amongst other cast members.
