Cate Blanchett’s seminal limited series ‘Stateless‘ has picked up a clutch of awards at the Australian Academy of Cinema & Television Arts (Aacta) Awards 2020. The mini series has won 13 awards in all, including several crucial ones.
Stateless won awards for the Best Miniseries; Best Screenplay; Best Lead Actor Award for Fayssal Bazzi; Best Lead Actress for Yvonne Strahovski; Best Supporting Actress for Cate Blanchett; Best Supporting Actor for Darren Gilshenan; among several other awards.
The series follows four people caught up in an immigration system that severely impacts their lives. Each character faces issues around protection and border control in a different way. The four people that the show focuses on include a flight attendant on the run from a cult; an Afghan refugee seeking a new life with his wife and two children; a young father of three struggling to make ends meet; and an ambitious bureaucrat caught between professional ambitions and a national scandal. All four intersect at an immigration detention center in the middle of the Australian desert.
Cate Blanchett not only stars in Stateless, but is also its executive producer. The refugee drama was picked up by Netflix for global streaming on its platform, outside of Australia. The series premiered on Netflix on 8th July 2020, amidst critical and audience acclaim.
