Chaka Chak from the much-awaited album Atrangi Re is finally out. After the brilliant composer and lyricist duo, the chances of it being great was high.
Shreya Ghoshal has given her magical voice in the song. The legendary AR Rahman has handled composition while the amazing Irshad Kamil has penned the song.
After a series of trashy songs, Atrangi Re was finally a ray of hope in Bollywood music. The composition is completely original and so are the lyrics. Well, it would be highly dystopian if legends like AR Rahman and Irshad Kamil would try to remix a song.
Regardless, Chaka Chak is picturised on Sara Ali Khan. As we saw in the trailer, she gets married to Dhanush in a forced marriage. But Dhanush isn’t happy at first so he marries some other girl. In this song, Sara is performing at the engagement ceremony of her accidental husband Dhanush.
Chaka Chak is picturised on a set that typically depicts a Tamil engagement ceremony but the lyrics are very similar to the languages spoken in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Also, the custom of kidnapping the groom and forcefully marrying him is practised largely in Bihar. We should thank the lyricist for understanding the depth of Sara’s character. While AR Rahman has used instruments that are typically popular in South Indian music. This proves that this is indeed a musical film.
This is not a kind of film in which songs are stuffed solely because of stuffing songs. It is high time we should celebrate musical films like Atrangi Re.
