Challenges Loom Over Netflix Before WWE Streaming

Starting April 1, WWE fans in India will need a Netflix subscription to watch Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and major events like WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, and SummerSlam. WWE has signed an exclusive global streaming deal with Netflix, which means it will no longer be available on Sony Sports Network or SonyLIV.

This is a big change for Indian fans who were used to watching WWE on TV or through SonyLIV’s mix of free and paid streaming. Now, WWE will only be available on Netflix, which requires a subscription. Even the cheapest mobile plan costs ₹149 per month. And honestly watching a 480p video on a phone is something nobody wants in 2025. The WWE fans have to go through the more expensive plan in order to enjoy the plan in good quality.

WWE is hugely popular in India, second only to cricket. Millions of fans watch it regularly, and many families enjoy it together. Netflix sees this as an opportunity to grow its subscriber base in India, where it still trails behind Disney+ Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video.

There is also a possibility of exclusive India-focused WWE content, like behind-the-scenes documentaries or features on local talent. To make things even more exciting, WWE is planning to bring live events to India in 2026 and 2027. Now that will be a huge thing indeed.
The biggest question now is whether Indian fans will follow WWE to Netflix. Many WWE viewers in India come from smaller towns where affordability matters. Sony offered a combination of free and paid content, making it easier for casual fans to stay engaged.

Netflix, on the other hand, remains a premium service with a subscriber base that is mostly urban and English-speaking. If WWE can convince its massive Indian fanbase to subscribe, this could be a game-changer for Netflix. If not, it could be a tough challenge in a price-sensitive market.
