Charlie Hunnam has been roped in to star in the lead role for series adaptation of ‘Criminal’ at Amazon Prime Video. He will be joining the earlier announced cast members Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison in the series.
Hunnam will star as Leo in ‘Criminal’. The character is described as “A brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”
Hunnam is known for his roles in works like ‘Sons of Anarchy’, where he was a recurring character for seven seasons. He also appeared in Apple TV+’s ‘Shantaram’, Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Gentleman’, ‘Undeclared’, ‘Pacific Rim’, ‘Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire’ and more.
‘Criminal’ is an interlocking universe of crime stories based on the multi-Eisner Award-winning graphic novel series created by Ed Brubaker (‘Westworld’, ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’) and Sean Phillips, who are both set as executive producers for the series.
Brubaker, who wrote the graphic novel and the pilot script, will co-showrun with acclaimed crime fiction author Jordan Harper (‘Hightown’, ‘Gotham’, ‘The Mentalist’).
Brubaker and Phillips are the most acclaimed team in the history of comics, having spent over 20 years creating such hits as Criminal, The Fade Out, Kill or be Killed, Reckless, Pulp, and many others. Separately, Brubaker has written key arcs for Marvel and DC Comics including Batman, Catwoman, The Immortal Iron Fist, and Captain America, including creating the character the Winter Soldier.
‘Criminal’ is executive produced by Ed Brubaker and Jordan Harper, alongside Sean Phillips, Sarah Carbiener, and Phillip Barnett. Legendary Television will also serve as an executive producer. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
