The monthly subscription fees for various Netflix subscription plans in India range from Rs.199/- for the mobile plan to Rs.799/- for the premium plan. Meaning thereby that the yearly fee comes out to be Rs.2388/- per year for the mobile plan to Rs.9588/- per year for the premium plan. Have you ever wondered about Netflix India’s positioning in relation to its subscription fee when compared to other countries? Or whether India offers the cheapest plan across the world or not?
There are two ways of calculating the cost of monthly Netflix plans offered by different countries. One is to ascertain the total number of titles currently streaming on Netflix and dividing it by the subscription fees. And the second way is by simply considering the monthly fee irrespective of the number of titles streaming in that country. First of all, Netflix India (basic monthly plan) is not the cheapest plan in the world. In fact, there are five countries that are offering cheaper monthly plans compare to India. The cheapest Netflix plan is offered by the South American country Argentina. Its basic monthly plan would set you back by just Rs.240/-, which is less than half of that of Netflix India’s Rs.499/- plan.
Between India and Argentina, other countries offering relatively cheap Netflix plans are Turkey, Brazil, Columbia, and South Africa whose basic monthly plans cost Rs.270/-, Rs.303/-, Rs.363/-, and Rs.473/-, respectively.
On the other end of the spectrum, you will find the most expensive Netflix basic monthly plan offered by one of the most scenic nations in the world – Switzerland. Netflix Switzerland basic monthly plan costs a whopping Rs.990/-, which is almost double that of Netflix India and more than four times that of Netflix Argentina. Although, for the sake of simplicity, we have not considered the countries’ per capita incomes for this article.
Other countries where Netflix monthly plans are not so much value for money comprise mostly European countries including Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Portugal, amongst others.
So, we should rather consider ourselves lucky that even if not the cheapest, still we are amongst the least paying nations when it comes to subscribing to monthly Netflix subscription plans. Because Netflix India’s basic monthly plan is about 25% cheaper than the worldwide average of Rs.640/-.
