Viewers who love watching films or tv shows desperately want to know when will Sony’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse be available for streaming.
The gap between theatrical and streaming releases has shortened drastically in modern cinema, especially after the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. Factors, such as poor theatrical performances of films and the growing craze of streaming platforms among viewers, have also contributed significantly to this scenario. The latest Chris Pine starrer, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, came out in theatres worldwide on March 31. However, the film’s poor theatrical performance forced Paramount to drop it on Amazon Prime Video on May 2, nearly a month after its theatrical release. The same scenario happened with Ben Affleck’s Air, which arrived on Prime Video on May 12 after failing to impress the viewers despite earning a strong critical reception.
Sony does not have a dedicated streaming service. That’s why it drops all of its big-budget projects on Netflix as part of its five-year deal with the streaming giant. And we should expect Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse to come out on Netflix.
As for the release date, Sony may drop Across the Spider-Verse on Netflix in December this year. The original entry, Into the Spider-Verse, commenced streaming six months after its theatrical release. So, we should expect the same with the sequel as well. Given the sequel’s theatrical release date is June 2, 2023, it may arrive on Netflix in December 2023.
Helmed by the trio of Kemp Powers, Joaquim Dos Santos, and Justin K. Thompson, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse takes place a year after the first film’s events. Upon being approached by Gwen Stacy, Miles Morales opts for the mission to protect every Spider-people in the universe from The Spot. However, things start to get complicated after Miles finds himself at odds with Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099), the leader of the Spider-Society.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse stars Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Brian Tyree Henry, Jake Johnson, Jason Schwartzman, Karan Soni, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, and Oscar Isaac. It will come out in theatres on June 2. Stay tuned for more updates.
