China Still Off Limits As Netflix’s Asia Takeover Plans Roll Out

Netflix is making huge plans to maintain its growth in the Asian countries. The streaming giant’s growth in the Asia Pacific region has been great overall. They are continuously planning to bring more and more originals and are investing even more in the coming years to bring more content. The most commonly viewed contents from these regions are K-Dramas, Japanese Anime and of course, Indian Original Content. The Indian content has huge values in countries like the UAE, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and others.

Netflix is making efforts in bringing content from all the possible countries, which brings us content like Thai movies and dramas, Filipino and even Arabic and Turkish content too. But even with so much content, one of the impossible fortresses that Netflix hasn’t been able to penetrate is China. Netflix is still not available in mainland China, even after it has so many Chinese original contents from the country itself.

There are various reasons as to why the company hasn’t been able to establish itself, but out of them the biggest reasons are most definitely the establishment and also the competition it will be receiving from various platforms that’s already ruling the country. According to reports there are various parties that help people watch the Netflix content without even subscribing to Netflix, meaning either it is free or they pay a really small amount for viewing it, as compared to the Netflix rates.

Netflix, just to tackle the payment issue has started rolling out cheaper plans, as study showed that many people like to watch it on their phones. The cheap mobile plans were introduced first in India, back in 2019 and now have been rolled out to countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and others. With Netflix doubling its investments for Asian countries it sure is looking for a long term solution but it still doesn’t seem like China will be opening up to Netflix anytime soon.
