Chintu Ka Birthday, Premiering On ZEE5, Is Essential Viewing – Here’s Why!

By Rashmi Paharia - May 30, 2020 @ 05:05 pm

ZEE5 will soon premiere a quaint little movie called ‘Chintu Ka Birthday‘ on its platform. The streaming platform has just released the trailer of the movie, and it is heart-touching, to say the least. Staying true to its title of the largest and most prolific creator for family-centric content in India, ZEE5‘s upcoming Chintu Ka Birthday is a family drama movie that will move you to the core.

The trailer is humorous, poignant and affecting. It transports the viewer to a world that feels as realistic, relatable and everyday, as it feels removed from one’s experiences in daily life. The effect is surreal.

The everyday endeavour that millions of families undertake every day in the wide world — celebrating their kids’ birthday as per their wishes – with friends, a huge cake and yummy eatables — turns into a perilous adventure for Chintu’s family, riddled with danger, gunfire and a threat to life.

Chintu Ka Birthday stars Vinay Pathak and Tillotama Shome as parents to little Chintu. It’s Chintu’s birthday and Chintu is agog with excitement. Except that his wish to celebrate his birthday – a normal wish on any other day – becomes a tall order for Chintu’s simple Bihari family. The movie is set in the backdrop of Baghdad of the early 2000s — Saddam Hussein is gone, and the city is overrun with American soldiers, with a penchant to talk with their guns rather than with their mouths. Deciding that Chintu’s family is an ISIS informer, the soldiers wreak havoc in their home.

Our hearts lurch in our throats as fate plays spoilsport in Chintu Ka Birthday. But we soon learn that even fate is no match for a father determined. Vinay Pathak gives glimpses of his magnificent craft in the trailer as the father prepared to face hell and high water to fulfill his son’s tiny wish.

The trailer begins with mundane scenes out of the mediocre lives of an ordinary emigrant Indian family. But what follows next is extraordinary and elevates the narrative into a life-affirming, moving tableau of human emotions.

Through the story of Chintu’s birthday, the film captures the poignant reality of how humankind has given up tiny joys in the pursuit of power and dominance over their fellow human beings.

The trailer gives glimpses of the fine acting put in by the two kids of the family. Vedant Raj Chibber looks cute, composed and in charge as Chintu, while Bisha Chaturvedi shines as his elder sister, Lakshmi.

Another crucial fact about Chintu Ka Birthday that amps up incredible interest in the upcoming movie is that it has been produced by Tanmay Bhatt, Gursimran Khamba, Rohan Joshi and Ashish Shakya – the founding members of the erstwhile All India Bakchod comedy outfit. And we all know that any project backed by AIB will absolutely be worth our while.

The film is written and directed by newcomer director duo Satyanshu and Devanshu Singh. The cast comprises of Vedant Raj Chibber, Vinay Pathak, Tillotama Shome, Bisha Chaturvedi, Seema Pahwa, Khalid Massou, Reginald L Barnes, Nathan Scholz, Amina Afroz and Mir Mehroos.

Chintu Ka Birthday will premiere on ZEE5 on 5th June. Check out the trailer of the upcoming movie here –
