If you are a fan of Bengali art house cinema, here is a film that you should watch at any cost. ‘Chotoder Chobi’ is streaming on Hoichoi and comes from the National Award winning filmmaker Kaushik Ganguly. Ganguly has impressed audiences with films like ‘Shabdo’, ‘Nagar Kirtan’ and ‘Bishorjon’. His films have a distinct aesthetic, separate from other films in contemporary times. He takes simple themes, simple emotions and takes them to new heights.
The movie tells the love-story between two victims of dwarfism. Khoka is a friend of Shibu, a trapeze artist who works in a circus with him. When Shibu meets with an accident and is unable to move from his bed his manager does not pay him well for his treatments. While all circus workers protest against this, only Khoka is brave enough to quit his job and look after Shibu. When he goes to Shibu’s house again and again, he slowly falls in love with Shibu’s sister Soma, who is a dwarf too. The two decide how to live together despite their physical limitations and constant social humiliation.
The cinematography of the movie is handled by Soumik Haldar and the music is given by Indradeep Dasgupta. Dasgupta has given some wonderful songs scattered throughout the narrative. The movie stars Dulal Sarkar and Deblina Roy in the leading role and their performances are beautiful.
Watch ‘Chotoder Chobi’ on Hoichoi with your friends and family this weekend.
