Chris Hemsworth Wants ‘Furiosa’ Director For MCU’s Thor 5

While many have taken a huge sigh of relief after witnessing Taika Waititi’s departure from Thor 5, there are some who believe that the director should have stayed for the next ‘God of Thunder’ project. Yes, Love and Thunder was a mess. But we should acknowledge his work in Thor: Ragnarok as he breathed a new fire into Thor movies with it. We all know that Marvel Studios is looking for Waititi’s replacement for the fifth Thor film. It seems like Chris Hemsworth has found a perfect solution for this scenario.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Hemsworth talked about his interest in collaborating with creative helmers. He specifically highlighted George Miller’s name in the interview.

“If something’s going to pull me away from my family and my kids, it’s got to be a positive, constructive, collaborative experience. I shot with George Miller on the new prequel to Fury Road, part of the Mad Max saga, and I said to my agent, “That’s where I want to spend my work hours; with someone who is kind and collaborative and interesting,” Hemsworth said.

George Miller has dedicated most of his filmmaking career to Mad Max movies. He is best known for helming all four Mad Max flicks and the upcoming spin-off, Furiosa, in which he is working with Chris Hemsworth.

In many ways, George Miller seems like a perfect fit for Thor 5. We all know how crazy, outlandish, and over-the-top his Mad Max films are. Yet, they are highly enjoyable to watch. He can bring his style of direction to the next Thor project. Plus, unlike Taika Waititi, he keeps his films’ tones real, serious, and gripping and avoids over-reliance on humour. Moreover, he prefers using physical sets and practical effects for his projects, a scenario which reduces his dependence on CGI. On the other hand, the Australian helmer is capable of making light-hearted and comedic flicks as well, such as Babe (1995) and Happy Feet (2006).

If we consider all these things, along with Miller’s ability to approach a storyline seriously, we may get Thor 5 with an improved MCU formula, which relies on balancing emotions with humour. Stay tuned for more updates.
