Christopher Nolan Needs An ‘Exceptional Idea’ To Direct A Horror Film

The master of mystery, Christopher Nolan, is open to directing a horror film, as per the latest report from Variety. Oppenheimer helmer recently spoke at a BFI (British Film Institute) event in London, where he was asked by one of the audience members if he would consider helming a horror flick. In reply, Nolan expressed his desire to make a horror project. However, the acclaimed filmmaker needs “a really exceptional idea” before moving forward with the project.

Christopher Nolan did not end there. He also talked about the things that sparked his interest in the horror genre.

“But I think it’s a very interesting genre from a cinematic point of view,” said Nolan. ”It’s also one of the few genres where the studios make a lot of these films, and they are films that have a lot of bleakness, a lot of abstraction. They have a lot of the qualities that Hollywood is generally very resistant to putting in films, but that’s a genre where it’s allowable.”

In addition, Nolan revealed that his last feature directional effort, Oppenheimer, had some horror elements as well.

Yes, the globally prominent helmer has yet to direct a horror film in his illustrious career. But it does not mean that he has zero experience in this scenario. Batman Begins (2005) is one of Nolan’s earliest offerings. In the movie, the scenes with Cillian Murphy’s Scarecrow have some horror elements.

We do not know if Christopher Nolan is in talks with any other film studio about making a horror film. But we know that his take on the genre will sit well with his fanbase, considering his commitment to his craft.

Christopher Nolan’s latest film, Oppenheimer, minted over $955 million globally. It stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, and more. Stay tuned for more updates.
