In January last year, the creator of BBC’s Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, confirmed that Season 6 would be the last addition to the period crime drama series. And now, the leading man, Cillian Murphy or the on-screen Thomas Shelby, has promised the fans that the upcoming instalment will be ‘dark as f***’.
The show serves as the fictionalised version of the real-life Peaky Blinders gang, found in Birmingham, England, from the 1890s to the 1910s. In a recent interview with Esquire, the reel-life Scarecrow mentioned all the possibilities in the upcoming sixth season. However, the actor didn’t know if Tommy’s redemption was on the table or not.
“Duality is what I’m interested in,” Murphy said, “that thing of: how the fuck can he (Tommy) be such a sensitive, good father but commit this heinous fucking act? People are willing to spend an awful long time with characters who, if someone described them to you in daily life, you would say, ‘Keep that person away from me.’ Is it only in television that that exists?”
The first four seasons of Peaky Blinders were a part of BBC Two. But the previous entry shifted to BBC One. On the other hand, Netflix handles the series’ international streaming.
Knight shared his thoughts about the possibilities of Season 6 and Season 7 back in 2018. Later, the creator affirmed that the sixth entry would be the last addition to the series. The crew commenced the production of the final season in March 2020. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced them to postpone their shooting schedule. Then, the remaining shoot started in January last year.
