Academy-Award-winning actor Cillian Murphy will reprise his role of Thomas “Tommy” Shelby in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, confirms Steven Knight, the show’s creator. The film has been in the works for quite some time now, following the BBC show’s conclusion two years ago.
Cillian Murphy’s return to the forthcoming Peaky Blinders film was unclear until now. Creator Steven Knight has confirmed that the ‘bloody Tommy Shelby’ will also appear in the movie.
This is what Knight told Birmingham World in his recent interview:
“He definitely is returning for it,” he told Birmingham World. “I mean he’s brilliant, and he’s such a great human being and he leads the line when we’re shooting and he’s so level-headed and straightforward. He deserves everything he gets.”
Knight also disclosed that the film’s shooting will commence in September this year.
In an interview earlier this year with Desert Island Discs, Murphy revealed his intentions to return to the world of Peaky Blinders. The actor recently bagged the Academy Award for Best Actor for his hard-hitting and sensational performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, along with a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award in the same category.
Created by Steven Knight, Peaky Blinders ran for six seasons, from September 2013 to April 2022. In addition to Cillian Murphy, the show featured talents like the late Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Ned Dennehy, Finn Cole, Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy, Natasha O’Keeffe, and more. The exact release date of the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie is yet to be revealed. Stay tuned for more updates.
