Tamil language Indian film ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’ has been in the news of late for all the right reasons. First, it received decent reviews from several critics. Then, a few weeks back, Indian movie buffs were in for a pleasant surprise when Karthik Subbaraj’s Western action-comedy movie cracked the coveted top 50 international movies list of the Auckland-based movies-centric social platform Letterboxd.
‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’ or simply ‘Jigarthanda 2’ is a prequel to the 2014 film ‘Jigarthanda’. The film’s story is set in the 1970s period and follows an infamous Madurai-based gangster (Raghava Lawrence), who is a diehard fan of Clint Eastwood. He crosses paths with a filmmaker (SJ Suryah), who agrees to make a movie with the gangster.
In yet another distinction for ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’, the Indian movie has now been directly acknowledged by none other than the legendary actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood himself. A few hours back, the social media handle of the 93-year-old veteran director replied to a Twitter user that Clint Eastwood is aware of the Indian movie ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’. Not just that, the post further stated that Clint Eastwood will watch the film after he is done with his latest directorial venture ‘Juror No.2’.
For the unversed, ‘Juror #2’ is a legal drama movie revolves around a man, who is serving as a juror in a murder trial. Now, he must make a tough decision based on which he could turn around the jury’s verdict in favor of or against the man on trial.
For an Oscar winning and globally admired filmmaker like Clint Eastwood not only acknowledging an Indian film but also assuring to watch it is moment of pride for the makers of ‘Jigarthanda DoubleX’. The movie is currently streaming on the Netflix OTT platform.
