Back in August, we had apprised our readers that Netflix’s fan-favorite and critically acclaimed martial arts comedy-drama series ‘Cobra Kai’ was renewed for a fifth season even before its fourth season premiere on 31st December on the Netflix OTT platform. In yet another exciting development for the show’s fans, ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 5 has already wrapped its filming schedule. This was confirmed by showrunner Jon Hurwitz and the show’s antagonist Martin Kove.
‘Cobra Kai’ is set more than three decades after the events of the 1984 cult film ‘The Karate Kid’. While the parent film featured Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso in the role of the underdog protagonist and his adversary was Johnny Lawrence was played by William Zabka. Whereas tables turned in the spin-off web series as the goings-on are narrated from Johnny Lawrence’s point of view in a universe where he becomes the underdog.
The third season of ‘Cobra Kai’ concluded with Johnny Lawrence teaming up for the first time with Daniel LaRusso to jointly train their students for the next All-Valley Karate tournament against their common enemy John Kreese (played by Martin Kove).
The third season’s finale also showed Kreese making a call to Terry Silver (played by Thomas Ian Griffith), a character that featured in ‘The Karate Kid Part III’. Griffith is set to reprise his role in ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 4 and his presence is certainly bound to further spice up the proceedings.
Fans are speculating whether Netflix’s Cobra Kai Season 4 will end on a cliffhanger akin to the second season and whether Season 5 will have a radically different plotline from earlier seasons. We would have to wait for just five more days to know more about it.
