Cobra Kai’s Success Spawns New Karate Kid Movie. Release Date Out

It was just last week that the fifth season of ‘The Karate Kid’ sequel series ‘Cobra Kai’ started streaming on Netflix. And like the earlier installments, ‘Cobra Kai Season-5’ became an instant hit with the OTT audiences. Following Cobra Kai’s phenomenal streaming success, Sony has just announced a brand-new Karate Kid movie and it is slated to release in theatres on 7th June 2024. The new Karate Kid movie is being touted as the return of the original Karate Kid franchise.

The parent 1984 movie ‘The Karate Kid’ has gained a cult following over the years. The hit martial arts drama featured Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso in the role of the underdog protagonist and his adversary Johnny Lawrence was played by William Zabka.

The success of the first film resulted in three sequels and a 2010 remake of the same name starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Then, recently, the Karate Kid universe was given a new lease of life after the arrival of the Cobra Kai spin-off/sequel series where tables turned as the goings-on are also narrated from Johnny Lawrence’s point of view in a setting where he becomes the underdog.

Coming back to the recently announced upcoming ‘Karate Kid’ movie, other details like the story, cast, director etc. are currently not known. However, the rumor mills suggest that the new Karate Kid film would apparently revolve around a proficient martial artist who relocates from Beijing to Brooklyn and teaches Karate to an out of luck pizzeria owner. But nothing is confirmed yet.

Besides the new Karate Kid movie, Sony has also made some additions and changes to the release date of some of its other films. The standalone sequel to the 2018 computer screen thriller ‘Searching’ titled ‘Missing’ is set to release on 24th Feb 2023. Then, Dakota Johnson’s eagerly anticipated superhero film ‘Madame Web’ has been delayed to 16th Feb 2024. While ‘Kraven the Hunter’ will now release on 6th Oct 2023. Moreover, Chris Pratt’s animated movie ‘Garfield’ and Adam Driver’s sci-fi horror flick ‘65’ will release on 24th May 2024 and 10th March 2023, respectively.
