Elizabeth Banks’ Cocaine Bear has emerged as a streaming success on Netflix India. Inspired by the real-life story of an American black bear devouring several kilos of cocaine bags, the movie earned over $90 million globally against a budget of $30-35 million during its theatrical run.
Cocaine Bear ranks second on Netflix India’s Top 10 Most Popular Movies list (June 24 – June 30, 2024), followed by Yash Raj’s Maharaj, starring Junaid Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Shalini Pandey. Jessica Alba’s Trigger Warning, and Nicole Kidman and Zac Efron’s A Family Affair are in the third and fourth positions, respectively.
One of the biggest box office disasters of 2024, Pooja Entertainment’s Bade Miyan and Chote Miyan has been pushed back to the fifth position. Laapata Ladies and Crew are in the sixth and seventh positions.
Apart from directing the movie, Banks also co-produced it with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for producing critically acclaimed animated movies Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023).
Cocaine Bear stars Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Christian Convery, Brooklyn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Margo Martindale, and Ray Liotta. On Rotten Tomatoes, 66% of critics liked it.
