Colman Domingo’s name has been swirling on social media for quite some time, largely due to the actor being reportedly considered Jonathan Majors’ replacement for the role of Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. However, Domingo is not aware of this scenario at all. Though, he acknowledges the Marvel fanbase’s passion and considers playing Kang “a beautiful thing”. Many believe that the Rustin fame can play Kang better than Majors.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Colman Domingo addressed the rumours of his casting as Kang the Conqueror in the MCU. This is what he replied:
“I don’t know, I’m always looking at what I have to do right now… I know there’s talk and conversations around, and I don’t know how much is true. I don’t even get that from my team, I can’t tell if it’s true or not. The fans are passionate. Somehow my name is out there in the world [and] I like the idea of just having your name called and someone speaking lovingly and kindly about something is a beautiful thing.”
Before Domingo, John Boyega’s name popped up on the internet as the potential replacement. However, the Star Wars actor expressed no interest in playing Kang when asked about it. On the other hand, Domingo has shown great interest in this scenario.
Here’s why we think Colman Domingo can outperform Jonathan Majors as Kang if Marvel officially picks up the former. The actor has played several multiayered characters with ease in the past. For instance, he gives a strong and compelling performance in HBO’s Euphoria. He constantly supports Rue and advises her to avoid his mistakes. His performance looks emotionally layered and breathtaking in some scenes. He could use some of that character’s complexities while portraying Kang on the big screen. Kang is himself a complicated character who is also evil and a complete sociopath. His tragedies and sacrifices made him the man we know today.
Colman Domingo is also quite capable of playing a bad guy. Just watch his sensational performance as a baddie in Zola (2020). In addition, the guy has displayed an incredible range of acting in films like Selma (2014), If Beale Street Could Talk (2018), Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (2020), Candyman (2021), and more. His recent performance in The Color Purple has received critical acclaim. Stay tuned for more updates.
