Award winning actor Colman Domingo is all set to join the star studded cast of Netflix’s ‘Rustin’. Domingo will be reuniting with his ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’ director George C. Wolfe for ‘Rustin’ that is the first feature film from Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground banner.
Colman Domingo will play the titular role of Bayard Rustin in ‘Rustin’ that tells the story of charismatic, gay, civil rights activist Bayard Rustin, who overcame an onslaught of obstacles, and altered the course of American history by organizing the 1963 March on Washington.
Apart from Colman Domingo known for his roles in ventures like ‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’, ‘Zola’, ‘Candyman’, ‘Euphoria’, ‘Rustin’ will star Chris Rock (‘Fargo’, ‘Untitled David O. Russell Project’, ‘Top Five’), Glynn Turman (‘Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom’) and Audra McDonald (‘Respect’).
George C. Wolfe is set to direct ‘Rustin’ with a story he co-wrote with Dustin Lance Black. Academy Award winner Bruce Cohen (‘American Beauty’) and Higher Ground’s Tonia Davis will produce the film while Higher Ground’s Mark R. Wright and Alex G. Scott will serve as executive producers.
Other upcoming projects from Higher Ground under its overall partnership with Netflix include feature films ‘Exit West’ and ‘Satellite’, and the comedic series ‘The G Word’ with Adam Conover. The banner has earlier produced Academy Awar winning documentary‘American Factory’, Kevin Hart’s ‘Fatherhood’ and critically acclaimed ’Worth’ starring Michael Keaton, Stanley Tucci and Amy Ryan for Netflix.
