Netflix’s upcoming biographical drama, Rustin, is set to arrive on the streaming platform on November 17. Helmed by George C. Wolfe, the film has HBO’s Euphoria fame, Colman Domingo, in the leading role of Bayard Rustin, a prominent African-American leader and gay civil rights activist who aided in organising the 1963 March on Washington, alongside Martin Luther King Jr.
Apart from Domingo, the film has Chris Rock, Glynn Turman, Audra McDonald, Aml Ameen, Michael Potts, Bill Irwin, and more talents. It has been produced under the production banner of Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions, with the screenplay penned down by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black.
The movie’s shooting commenced in the fall of 2022.
Considering Netflix’s decision to hold Rustin until November says a lot about the streaming platform’s faith in it. The OTT platform must have taken this decision in hopes of garnering consideration for several awards, including Oscars, Golden Globes, and the Critics Choice Awards.
Domingo lent his voice to a couple of recent feature releases, such as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (voiced Unicron) and Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken (voiced Arthur Gillman). The former barely managed to survive at the global box office, earning over $421 million. On the other hand, Teenage Kraken bombed at the box office.
Led by Colman Domingo, Rustin will come out on Netflix on November 17. Stay tuned for more updates.
