Comicstaan S3: Will Amazon Prime Show Rise Again After S2’s Fiasco?

The first season of Comicstaan was unique and intriguing. However, the show lost all its charm and funniness in Season 2. It seemed like Amazon Prime played way too safe with the sophomore season. The lack of thought-provoking and quality humour resulted in last season’s lacklustre performance. Even Zakir Khan’s popularity was not enough to save the show. Now, Comicstaan Season 3 is ready to hit the streaming service. Will it excel Season 2 in terms of quality? Let’s find out!

The debut season bestowed various gifted stand-up comedians to the viewers like Nishant Suri, Rahul Dua, Prashasti Singh, and many more. Their oddball yet outstanding performances are one of the reasons why Season 1 was such a mammoth success.

Samay Raina and Aakash Gupta shined the most in Season 2, eventually emerging as the joint winners in the end. The former commenced his journey in Comicstaan with a bang in the first episode. Though, there were times when it seemed like the stand-up comedian lost some grip on his content. But he bounced back hard in the last two episodes which helped him get his hands on the show’s trophy. As for Gupta, he never lost his touch. His flawless and natural comic timing aided the comedian in winning Season 2 with Raina. Plus, Sheerja Chaturvedi’s slow and steady deliveries often received genuine responses from the audience.

The upcoming season is different from previous entries. This time, the judges have been separated from the mentors. The quartet of Kenny Sebastian, Neeti Palta, Sumukhi Suresh, and “Sakht Launda” Zakir Khan has been chosen to helm the judges’ seats. On the other hand, we have Kanan Gill, Anu Menon, Rahul Subramanian, Aadar Malik, Sapan Verma, Prashasti Singh, and Rohan Joshi on mentors’ panel.

The addition of Rahul Subramanian and Rohan Joshi may benefit the third season as both gentlemen are comic maestros and have a huge fan following. Their popularity will help Amazon Prime in luring more viewers. But the makers must not go with last season’s restrained approach. Also, Zakir Khan and Neeti Palta have praised this year’s contestants.

“I won’t take names, but the female contestants this year are amazing, all of them. One of them was very new to the scene, and we weren’t sure how she would perform in the format. And since the format permits just a few 4 to 5 minutes of performance per comic, we were so surprised to see her doing better and better in each and every episode. She was so raw in the show, that whatever she did was funny and acceptable.” Khan said while speaking about the contestants.

Palta also shared her feelings about the contestants of Season 3, “Every one of them has a unique voice. There’s one whose head is always in a dark space and that cracks you up. There’s one who would visualise her joke in such detail that you’re with her throughout. And then there are two very professional-looking guys who make you feel even professors can be funny! One guy will just take you by surprise with his dance, he will be standing there straight delivering jokes and then suddenly dancing around and taking you hilariously by surprise! For me, each one of them was a surprise package. These people are amazingly talented.”

All these things indicate that Comicstaan Season 3 may rise again after the last season’s fiasco. Stay tuned for more updates.
