Confusion Over Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Omerta’ Streaming Online – ZEE5 Says Happening, Producers Say Not Happening

By Rashmi Paharia - Jun 02, 2020 @ 12:06 pm

Omerta Zee5Yesterday it became known that Rajkummar Rao’s 2017 release ‘Omerta’ would finally be released online on ZEE5. The news came much to the delight of thousands of film buffs who’ve been waiting for the edgy film to release on streaming. But even as Twitter erupted with joy at the news, the co-producers of the movie, Swiss Entertainment, poured cold water over their joy. The production company has categorically denied on Twitter that it has given streaming rights to ZEE5.

The entire exchange took place on Twitter, of all places. Let us take you to the very beginning. ZEE5 recently released their content slate for the month of June, where they announced the movie Omerta in their June streaming calendar. A popular streaming aggregator picked up the stunning information from ZEE5’s June calendar, and announced it on Twitter.

ZEE5 also announced its upcoming release of Omerta on its social media handles. This was followed by numerous celebrities also tweeting about the news, including Anurag Kashyap. Even as the news began to spread among film buffs, Swiss Entertainment posted a tweet saying that they had not given the streaming rights of their film to any streaming platform, and the platform in question must not fool fans of the movie with false news.

Here’s what Swiss Entertainment tweeted, and we quote verbatim,

“Dera Zee5 Thanks for your tweet for Omertà But don’t misguide Fan we never in talk With ZEE5”.

The film’s director, Hansal Mehta was also taken by surprise by the announcement which apparently dropped out of the blue for him too. He sounded a word of caution by asking fans to wait for the movie to actually release.

This is what Hansal Mehta tweeted, and we quote verbatim,

“A word of caution. This announcement of Omerta being streamed on @ZEE5Premium came as a surprise to me. Am still not sure whether it is actually going to stream on the platform. It’s heartening to see how many people want to see the film but let there be an official confirmation.”

This tweet from the main man himself left fans wondering whether Omerta would stream online or not.

Omerta is a crime drama, based on the story of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British terrorist of Pakistani descent, who had spread terror in the nineties by kidnapping foreigners in India. He was also a part of the kidnapping and horrendous murder of Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl in Pakistan. Rajkummar Rao has portrayed Sheikh in the movie. Rajesh Tailang also has a prominent part in Omerta.

As for the confusion prevailing over Omerta’s streaming online, all we can say is that we’ll simply have to wait and watch whether Omerta finally makes its way to ZEE5 or not.

Stay tuned to Binged.com for fresh updates on the release of Omerta online.
