As per media reports, there has been a deal between Reliance Viacom18 and Warner Bros on making the content of Warner Bros content and HBO content available on JioCinema. The financials of the deal are not disclosed but it has been said the Warner Bros cannot offer any of the popular titles to rival platforms like Prime Video or Disney+Hotstar to stream in India.
HBO shows were previously streaming on Disney+Hotstar in India. There was a certain disappointment in audiences when it was announced all HBO content would be leaving the platform. HBO shows and movies left Disney+Hotstar on the 31st of March.
Amazon Prime Video and JioCinema were the frontrunners in taking up the HBO content for streaming in India. It is quite great start for such a new platform. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Viacom18 is acquiring popular movies and shows as well as, IPL and WPL, the two biggest events in Indian sports. Few days back JioCinema had announced a huge slate for Marathi, Hindi and Bengali movies and shows.
The deal will commence from the 1st of May and as per media reports JioCinema will premiere content on the same day as the USA. Reliance JioCinema is definitely the biggest brand in terms of Indian sport streaming, the platform now eyes to attract audiences from a far more diverse range. With wonderful shows like ‘Game Of Thrones’, ‘Succession’, ‘The Last Of Us’, ‘House Of The Dragon’, and movies like the Harry Potter series from Warner Bros. will definitely help in boosting the platform’s popularity and engagement.
