The much awaited Hulu and BBC Original “Conversations with Friends“, adaptation of Sally Rooney’s novel of the same name dropped it’s teaser and release date. The show is highly anticipated since the golden team of Hulu’s “Normal People” is back with a bang. The show is scheduled to premiere on May 15, 2022.
The show follows Frances (played by Alison Oliver), a 21-year-old college student navigating through the ups and downs of her life, most importantly a series of relationships that leads her to confront her own vulnerabilities and weaknesses.
The teaser does the right job in piquing the interest of viewers. Since the team of “Normal People” are working behind the show, the parallels are hard to ignore. The colour palettes, cinematography and conflicts look very similar and equally vulnerable. We can see a struggling Frances, a conflicted Frances, a broken and emotionally wrecked Frances and an emancipated Frances throughout the teaser. Well it’s Sally Rooney after all and the show is definitely going to be another award sweeper next year repeating “Normal People” success.
Rooney Reunites with Lenny Abrahamson who co-directs with Leanne Welham and “Normal People” producer Element Pictures who develops the show for Hulu and BBC Three. Alison Oliver plays Frances and she is joined by Sasha Lane (plays Bobbi Connolly) , Joe Alwyn (as Nick Conway) and Jemima Kirke (as Melissa Conway) in the series.
“Conversations With Friends” was Sally Rooney’s breakout novel in 2017, followed by Normal People and Beautiful World, Where are You?.
