Netflix Golden, Netflix’s social media channel pertaining to the pan-Asian diaspora, has just announced on its social media platform that an ensemble cast has been roped in for its latest Chinese language series titled ‘Copycat Killer’. The series is an adaptation of the immensely admired Japanese crime novel ‘Mohohan’ written by Miyabe Miyuki which was published in the late 90s.
The original source material – the bestselling novel Mohohan, which translates to copycat in English, narrated the story of a cold-blooded, sadistic, and intelligent serial killer who kidnaps and murders women and eliminates all the threats which can get him caught. The ruthless media-savvy killer announces his murders to make a public display out of it.
While the Japanese novel was set in the capital city of Japan – Tokyo, the Netflix series will be set amidst the backdrop of Taiwan’s capital city Taipei. The actors who will be a part of the show include Wu Kang-ren, Alice Ko, Tuo Tsung-hua, Yao Chun-yao, Fandy Fan, Cammy Chiang, Hsia Teng-hung, and Ruby Lin, amongst others.
However, this is not the first time Miyabe Miyuki’s novel ‘Mohohan’ has been adapted for the screen. Because previously, a novel-based film named ‘Copycat Killer’ aka ‘Mohou-han’ helmed by Yoshimitsu Morita was released back in the year 2002.
Coming back to the Netflix series ‘Copycat Killer’, considering the source material (Mohohan) and the show’s star-studded cast, this is one title that OTT audiences can look forward to watching. The Chinese language Netflix series ‘Copycat Killer’ is slated to start streaming on the OTT platform sometime later in the year 2022. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the show.
