Corbet's The Brutalist Holds Oscar Potential

The Brutalist, when it debuted at the Venice Film Festival, the audience couldn’t help but applaud the historical epic. Directed by Brady Corbet and starring Adrien Brody, the movie had an overwhelming reaction from the audience, which gave it a well-deserving 12-minute standing ovation.

Not just that, the brutalist looks like the making of a commercial success in all manners, with its distributing rights now residing with A24. The movie is set in America in 1947. The story follows Hungarian architect Laszlo Toth, an emigrant on American soil. How he was faced with poverty and how he rose up to the heights of success.

Along with Brody, the movie features an impressive cast, including the likes of Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Jonathan Hyde, and Alessandro Nivola. The audience was captivated by the magnanimity of the story. There is just something too primal that draws us towards the story of a man from humble beginnings who makes it big in the end.

We have seen Corbets work on movies like “Vox Lux” and “The Childhood of a Leader,” both of which struck a chord with an audience. Mix a bit of Oscar-winning talent from Adrien Brody with that, and you have yourself a potential Oscar nominee. With a little bit of genius mixed with a healthy dose of passion, The Brutalist makes it clear that it is here to stay for a long long time.
