While it is the case with exhibition sector and traditional movie making industry that depends on theatrical release, another segment getting boosted by the pandemic. It is the digital space which has seen a massive uptick due to the coronavirus.
Every month the estimate of the subscriptions are getting revised with the continuation of the lockdown the unending hunger of the entertainment seeking audience. Disney Plus and Netflix are the biggest beneficiaries of the current situation.
Netflix is the leader because it has been in the game a lot early, but it is Disney Plus which is making large strides. The streaming platform is getting launched in a phased manner in different places. Previously, when it arrived in India, there was a humongous surge in numbers thanks to its merger with Hotstar.
Similarly, the latest UK and other European launch has given it a large push, further. The streaming platform is revising it early estimates (for the number of subscribers) for the year 2025, significantly. It earlier reported likely range to be between 60 to 90 million. However, the latest survey reveals it will be huge 200 million. Netflix, of course, will continue to lead with over 250 subscriptions.
The numbers suggests OTT platform to rule the entertainment space in the coming few years, at the least.
