Could Amazon Prime Be Facing Another ‘Tandav’ Situation With ‘Family Man 2’?

The trailer for the second season of the upcoming, highly-anticipated TV series, ‘The Family Man‘ came out five days ago, and it has been the talk of multiple media outlets and social media platforms during those five days. The near-3-minute promotional video managed to set viewing records while at the same time offend multiple groups of people, at the same time. With even State Governments (Tamil Nadu State Government, in this case) demanding Amazon Prime Video to hold the release of ‘The Family Man 2’, we wouldn’t be surprised if Amazon Prime faces another “Tandav situation”.

So here is the situation, in case you guys didn’t know about it. The upcoming season of ‘The Family Man’ will be about a group of Tamil terrorists. Being a spy series, we always expected some kind of crisis to take place in the show, which would eventually have to be created by someone. Which happened to be a group of Eelam Tamils, for ‘The Family Man’ series. This has caused many Tamilians to be upset, with the DMK government asking Union information and broadcasting minister Prakash Javadekar to ban the released of the action-drama web series ‘The Family Man 2’.

Let’s get one thing out of the way – the trailer is bloody brilliant, no two ways about it. Even if we end up with a bad second season for ‘The Family Man’, the trailer has us pumped up and ready to watch it anyway. Even the part which has caused a lot of controversy. Samantha Akkinenni is unrecognizably bad-ass and brilliant in the few clips we get a glimpse of. Check out this trailer, at the end of this article, to judge the accusations for yourself.

Of course, we can understand some of the bad feeling to some extend. But this trailer is not dragging any group or people “under the bus” for the purpose of entertainment, they are merely using an existing issue and making a plot from that (And it shouldn’t matter if the conflict was created artificially, if it is not done maliciously). And here’s a fun fact – there are two Tamil writers brought on for the second season of ‘Tha Family Man’ while consisting interviews with one Sri Lankan Tamil expert on the sensitive subject matter. So let’s wait and see the end product, before we judge the way the series has been portrayed.

So for now, we will have to wait another ten days, before the second season of ‘The Family Man’ premieres on June 4th 2021.
