Creator Teases Ready Ideas For Netflix’s The Midnight Club S02

Mike Flanagan is royalty in the horror genre. His latest outing for Netflix titled ‘The Midnight Club’ has been trending in the top 10 charts since its release. With the series ending with an unexpected cliffhanger, fans were hopeful that the series would have a season 2. While another season has not been officially greenlit by Netflix, it seems Mike already has ideas for the same.

‘The Midnight Club’ goes through the story of a group of terminally ill teenagers who meet up at midnight in the library of the hospital cum Home they are staying in. They spent the night narrating scary stories to each other, maybe for a brief escape from their approaching deaths. The series ends with an expected turn- the loving doctor who runs the home they stay in, turned out to be a member( or ex-member) of a cult that performs blood rituals.

While Mike Flanagan, in an interview with the media, didn’t detail his plans, he did reveal that we would see more of the doctor in the series. While she does help Ilonka escape from being killed by another cultist, whether she is a member who is still waiting for the right time to strike or if she is an ex-member of the cult who genuinely wants to help, we are left to guess.
He says that the reason she has the symbol of the cult behind her neck is deeply personal, leading fans to wonder if it has something to do with her late son also being terminally ill, possibly leading her to find answers in the cult. He also confirmed that the teenagers would most likely be returning, either as their real selves or in flashbacks.

The end of the first season also seemingly confirmed that the ghosts of the old man and old lady seen by the teenagers are no mere figments of their imagination. It is revealed that they are possibly the parents of the doctor who runs the Home, since the teenagers never saw or knew them before, adding fire to the theory of them being actual ghosts. With 6 teenagers still staying at the Brightcliffe Home and the series doing well (It’s trending at No.2 in India at the time of writing this article), there are lots to continue with for the ace master of horror.

It is hoped we get to see more of the series, which is as much a horror series as it is a humane series that has heart as well. A well-written screenplay in the horror genre is not common and for that, the series is well appreciated. Next time though, with a preferably less irritating Ilonka.
