Criminal Record, led by Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo, has been renewed for Season 2 at the Apple TV+ streaming platform. The leading duo will reprise their respective characters of DCI Daniel Hegarty and DS June Lenker in the upcoming season.
Season 1 focused on the clash between Hegarty and Lender over an old mysterious murder case after an anonymous phone call informed them about it. Now Season 2 will raise the stakes and focus more on June, who gets consumed with immense guilt after a young man tragically loses his life during a violent clash between the members of a political rally and some protestors. June happened to be on the scene when it all occurred. Her determination to bring the killer to justice once again leads her to Hegarty, now an important figure in the world of police intelligence.
The first season was a hit among viewers and critics, who gave it a ‘fresh’ score of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 47 reviews). It was praised for its performances (particularly of Capaldi and Jumbo), intriguing storyline, and outstanding twists and turns. It concluded on February 21 this year.
Executive producers for Criminal Record Season 2 are Capaldi, Jumbo, showrunner Paul Rutman, along with Chris Sussman and Elaine Collins. It’s produced for Apple TV+ by STV Studios and Tod Productions. Apple TV+ is yet to reveal a release window for the second season. Stay tuned for more updates.
