It’s a happy news for everyone who missed out on Malayalam movie “Pada” at the movies. Critically raved Malayalam film “Pada” directed by Kamal K.M. and starring Kunchacko Boban, Joju George, Vinayakan and Dileesh Pothan is set to have it’s OTT release on March 30,2022. The film opened to rave reviews and is also a commercial success. However the film drops on Amazon Prime Video hardly 20 days after it’s limited theatrical release.
The film is based on a true incident that ensued in 1996 when the then Palakkad collector was held hostage by a group of four revolutionaries who called themselves as “Ayyankali Pada”. The reason behind the hostage incident was to gather media attention and to force the then Government of Kerala to roll-back the unanimously passed Amendment Act on Kerala Scheduled Tribes Act, 1975 that betrayed and rendered Kerala’s tribal populace landless.
“Pada” is Writer-Director Kamal K. M‘s second feature film (I.D being his debut and streaming on Mubi India). E4 Entertainment and AVA Productions bank-rolled the film whose Principal Cinematography was handled by Sameer Thahir. Made on a budget of around 4 Crore, the film made around 15 crores at the box office.
