Cruella 2: Emma Stone Gives A Promising Update About Disney Sequel

Emma Stone has given an exciting update about the progress of Cruella 2, which will serve as a direct sequel to Craig Gillespie’s 2021 film.

Cruella took inspiration from the prominent Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel, The Hundred and One Dalmatians, which also consists of the evil Cruella de Vil. It served as the third entry to the live-action 101 Dalmatians franchise, focusing on the origins of Cruella de Vil. The reboot project portrayed the titular villain more sympathetically and explored the reason for her cruelty. Disney greenlighted its sequel shortly after its theatrical release.

Speaking with Variety, Emma Stone revealed that Cruella 2 was a “work in progress”. She believes that the filming for the highly-anticipated sequel will commence “sooner than later”.

However, when asked about Cruella 2’s release window, the Academy Award-winning actress replied carefully. She did not give an exact release date.

Will Cruella 2 perform wonders for Disney? Well, it seems like the production company has a lot of hopes for it. Its 2021 predecessor was Disney’s first major release after the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. Plagued with the pandemic’s regulations, Cruella earned only a fraction of what Disney films earned in the pre-pandemic era. It collected over $230 million globally during its theatrical run.

Considering everything mentioned above, Cruella’s box office performance was decent, enough to force Disney to greenlight its sequel.

Viewers may witness a more evil and complicated side of Cruella de Vil’s persona in the upcoming sequel. Plus, it may give us more details about the character’s origins. Let’s see when Disney officially announces the release date of Emma Stone’s Cruella 2. Stay tuned for more updates.
