CW Series ‘Wonder Girl’ To Get A Historic New Lead

CW’s latest DC acquisition ‘Wonder Girl’, is going to have a historic new lead. Based on the DC characters created by Joelle Jones, the Berlanti Productions produced TV series will have a Latina female lead. The series will be written and co-produced by Dailyn Rodriguez, the executive producer and showrunner of the crime drama show, ‘The Queen of The South’.

The series will focus on a Latina dreamer, Yara Flor, who is the daughter of an Amazonian Warrior and a Brazilian River God. When she finds out that she has the powers of Wonder Girl, she uses this newfound power to fight evil forces that would seek to destroy the world. This will mark the first Latina superhero title for a DC TV series.

The previous person to portray a live-action version of Wonder Girl was Connor Leslie on ‘Titans’, who portrayed the Donna Troy alter-ego. The show focused on Teen Titans who have all grown up and gone their separate ways. Due to dark forces gathering, they come back to their previous home, the Titan’s tower, where they take on the uprising evil together.

With Warner Bros. creating a link between all DC Universes last year in their infinite crisis storyline on ‘Arrow’, ‘The Flash’, ‘Batwoman’, ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, there is a very good chance that Yara Flor’s Wonder Girl will team up with some of these superheroes (depending on ratings mainly). With ‘Arrow’ and now even ‘Supergirl’ coming to a close, these shows will need to be filled for their annual “teamups”.

‘The Flash’, ‘Supergirl’ and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. ‘Arrow’ is currently running all of its 8 seasons on ‘Netflix’.
