Daisy Ridley’s ‘Very Special’ Star Wars Film Teased By Helmer

Daisy Ridley’s upcoming Star Wars movie was announced last year at the Star Wars Celebration event. The project has Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who is best known for helming two episodes of the Disney+ Ms Marvel series, as its director.

Obaid-Chinoy recently talked with CNN about Ridley’s new Star Wars flick. She teased her collaboration with the on-screen Rey from the galaxy far, far away. “I’m very thrilled about the project because I feel what we’re about to create is something very special.” She also talked about the significance of women in films and the representation of female characters in the interview. “We’re in 2024 now, and it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”

Not much plot of Daisy Ridley’s Star Wars project is known, except that the film will take place 15 years after the events of Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. It will focus on rebuilding the Jedi Order under Rey’s guidance.

Ridley has suffered immense hate from the Star Wars fanbase in the past due to the controversial portrayal of her character, Rey, in the popular space opera franchise. Rey’s true parentage is one of the most bizarre and controversial things about the sequel trilogy. Before The Last Jedi’s release, many fans believed that she shared a connection with Obi-Wan Kenobi. In Episode IX, it was revealed that she was the granddaughter of one of the most evil characters in Star Wars, Sheev Palpatine. Other things that did not sit well with fans were the lack of depth in Ridley’s character and Rey taking the iconic ‘Skywalker’ name at the end of Episode IX. In addition, the decision to make her way too powerful for anyone just makes no sense.

It will be interesting to see how Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy deals with the controversies mentioned above while helming her forthcoming Star Wars project starring Daisy Ridley. How Rey was portrayed in the sequel trilogy was not in Ridley’s control, so we cannot blame the actress for that scenario. Which is why the director has to generate some sympathy for Rey among the fanbase and mitigate the hate the actress has faced for so many years. Stay tuned for more updates.
