People Magazine has released the first-look images of Disney’s upcoming biopic film, Young Woman and the Sea, starring Daisy Ridley as Gertrude Ederle, prominent American swimmer, world record-holder, and Olympic champion.
Based on Glenn Stout’s novel of the same name, the film tells the story of Gertrude Ederle (played by Ridley) who won her first Olympic gold medal at the 1924 Olympic Games. In 1926, she became the first-ever woman swimmer to swim over 21 miles across the English Channel.
