Popular antagonist in the MCU, Helmut Zemo is portrayed by multiple award-winning German-Spanish actor Daniel Brühl. His slate of impressive movies includes hits like ‘Inglorious Basterds’, ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’, ‘The Alienist’, ‘Good Bye, Lenin’ and many more!
His newest project for Disney+ required him to step into the shoes of one of the most iconic fashion designers in recent history, Karl Lagerfeld who worked for top fashion houses like Balmain, Patou, Chloé, and Chanel. ‘Becoming Karl Lagerfeld’, the miniseries debuted at Cannes to a 3-minute long standing ovation! As per official reports, the pilot episode will air on Hulu and Disney+ across the world on June 7.
The show captures the late German designer in 1972, before he morphed into an instantly recognizable figure who took pop culture by storm. His courtship with young Jacques de Bascher is also depicted.
Alongside Brühl, the ensemble cast includes Arnaud Valois, who plays Yves Saint Laurent – another fashion giant – while Théodore Pellerin takes on the role of de Bascher. To prevent the show from attaining biopic status, creator Isaure Pisani-Ferry stated that the team conducted an in-depth research into the life of the late legend.
Having played the icon, Brühl stated that he is prepared for the audience to criticize his portrayal of Lagerfeld, another famous personality whose life was not devoid of controversy!
