Darlings: Trailer, Release Date, Streaming Platform, Cast, Plot

More than a year after kicking off its production, Netflix’s upcoming offbeat dark comedy film ‘Darlings’ is all geared up to start streaming on the OTT platform from 5th August onwards. The eagerly anticipated movie is Alia Bhatt’s maiden production venture that is being co-produced by none other than the Bollywood heartthrob and superstar Shahrukh Khan. After unveiling an intriguing teaser earlier this month, Netflix has just dropped its official trailer.

Darlings’ trailer starts off with Vijay Varma as Hamza confessing that he is leaving her wife Badri (Alia Bhatt) for certain reasons despite his love for her. Thereafter, Badri and her mother (Shefali Shah) try to lodge a police complaint about her missing husband. In the subsequent reels, the husband appears again, and the wife now decides to treat her alcoholic husband the same way he treated her earlier, while hiding her violent revenge plan from others.

‘Darlings’ is a black comedy film that revolves around a mother-daughter duo (played by Shefali Shah and Alia Bhatt) that is set against the backdrop of a conservative and lower-middle-class Mumbai neighbourhood. The story is about how Alia Bhatt’s character Badru thinks that her husband will change after he stops his drinking habit but when things go out of control, both these women set out to exact revenge in their own amateurish way.

The movie also features Vijay Varma (Pink, Ok Computer, Mirzapur) and Roshan Mathew (Night Drive, C U Soon, Choked) in important roles. The film marks the feature film directorial debut of Jasmeet K Reen, who had earlier helmed a short segment in the 2007 film ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’.

It’s a truly exciting phase for the gifted actress Alia Bhatt. Her last two films ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘RRR’ (in a brief yet impactful act) went on to become huge hits. And after ‘Darlings’, the ‘Highway’ actress will next be seen in the big-ticket movie ‘Brahmastra Part One: Shiva’ alongside her husband Ranbir Kapoor followed by Karan Johar’s ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’, her debut Hollywood venture ‘Heart of Stone’ co-starring Gal Gadot and Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Jee Le Zaraa’ co-starring Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif.
