Popular Star Wars character Darth Maul is getting his own animated Disney+ series, Star Wars Maul: Shadow Lord. Lucasfilm announced the show at the recent Star Wars Celebration event.
Do you guys remember the epic battle between Darth Maul and the duo of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn during the final moments of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace? It’s a legendary two-on-one lightsaber battle that reaches a whole new level thanks to John Williams’ iconic score. (Imagine “Duel of the Fates” playing in the background.)
Fans lost their minds when they first saw Darth Maul splitting his lightsaber into two single-bladed ones. Yeah, he kills Qui-Gon—but come on, that lightsaber is cool AF. (Don’t judge us, folks. We all have a bit of Sith inside us.)
During a Lucasfilm Animation 20th-anniversary panel at Star Wars Celebration, executives Dave Filoni and Athena Portillo highlighted the company’s history. Instead of just teasing future projects, they surprised the audience with a trailer reveal for Maul: Shadow Lord in the panel’s closing moments.
This upcoming animated Disney+ series will premiere in 2026. Sam Witwer is returning to voice Maul for this one.
We all saw Obi-Wan slice Darth Maul in half in The Phantom Menace. But Lucasfilm clearly loves its bad guys a tad too much, because the studio brought Maul back in the hit animated series The Clone Wars.
That show, along with Star Wars Rebels, expanded Maul’s character in a big way, giving him a rich backstory, a role in a vast criminal network, and some seriously compelling arcs.
Indian fans can expect to stream Star Wars Maul: Shadow Lord on JioHotstar in 2026. Stay tuned for more updates!
