It’s been nearly a decade since we saw David Blaine electrify us live in his 2012 “Electrified: One Million Volts Always On” (Pun intended). David is now returning, to perform live, in his new event “Ascension”.
Inspired by the movie “Up” by Pixar, David Blaine is set to fly, by holding onto helium balloons. The performance will see him attempting to float across the Hudson River from New Jersey to New York, making it his most ambitious feat yet. If there is not heavy rain or wind, it will be an event that will go on for a few hours. Verizon is sponsoring the show in collaboration with YouTube Originals.
This is new for Blaine, as all of his previous live events were all broadcast on Television. In 1999, he was held under a three-ton water tank for a week, surviving off of a couple of teaspoons of water each day. In 2000, ‘the part magician, part endurance-artist’ attempted to encase himself in an ice block for 72 hours but failed.
In more recent years, Blaine has been releasing specials which featured him performing for various celebrities varying from Drake and Margot Robbie to Barack Obama. “Ascension” will be his second special during the coronavirus pademic, with his first one being him performing magic tricks during an ABC special in July via video.
Ascension (if weather permits) can be viewed live from David Blaine’s official YouTube channel on Monday, August 31st 2020. If you go now, you can set a reminder for the same. For more live updates, you can follow Blaine on Twitter and Instagram.
