While we all await ‘Squid Game’ season 2 there is an interesting development that has come to note. According to a recent report by an international publication, David Fincher is still developing an American version of the massively popular Korean series ‘Squid Game’. Report suggests that Fincher has hired ‘Utopia’ writer Dennis Kelly for the project.
It was rumoured a few years ago that Fincher is working on the ‘Squid Game’ remake for Netflix when the original show became a worldwide phenomenon on its premiere on the global streaming giant in 2021.
The filmmaker had such keen interest for the ‘Squid Game’ remake that he put the ‘Chinatown’ prequel series that he was making for Netflix on the back burner despite all episodes having been written and ready to go.
‘Chinatown’ prequel series was announced back in 2019 and it was reported that Fincher and Oscar winning ‘Chinatown’ screenwriter Robert Towne were developing the series for Netflix.
But ever since the blockbuster success of ‘Squid Game’, Fincher was quick to change plans and switch towards an American, English language version of the show. Reportedly he has roped in Dennis Kelly to write for this adaptation.
As for official confirmations, there’s nothing from Fincher or Netflix on the topic. In fact when asked, Netflix’s Ted Sarandos said that since the original series is still going on there’s no justified reason for a remake.
