DC fans have always wanted to discover the making of magic, especially the side of Zatanna and Constantine. Though some of it has been explored in the DC Animated Universe and DC Web Series, it barely made it to the big screens.
So, fans were basically excited to witness the magic of Zatanna but, a dream remains a dream.
DC Studios cancels Zatanna movie by Emerald Fennell amid James Gunn’s DCU reboot. The overhaul aims for Marvel-style connectivity, sidelining planned films, including Chris McKay’s Nightwing.
Exceptions, like Robert Pattinson’s Batman, continue as Elseworlds projects. DC shifts focus to a fresh canon and cast, marking a significant departure from previous DCEU plans.
Emerald Fennell, known for her role in The Crown, confirms the cancellation of the Zatanna project due to DC Studios’ leadership changes and James Gunn’s restructuring.
She recalls the initial enthusiasm, with J.J. Abrams planned a Dark Universe reboot before her involvement in Promising Young Woman. Despite her excitement and appreciation for Abrams’ team at Bad Robot, the project is now officially abandoned.
“But in the end, I think the whole universe got, plans changed, but you know that’s fine. I love writing. I love writing and working with people, so it was kind of really fun to do in the end. Whether or not it would’ve been remotely makable,”
Though this was definitely an expected change, fans really expected something like this. A Zatanna and Constantine chemistry would have been a good one but again, in reboots, any franchise takes some big hits.
