DCEU Movie Blue Beetle Wraps Filming. Gears Up for Aug 2023 Release

Fans of the superhero movie genre must be eagerly waiting for the release of the upcoming DCEU film ‘Blue Beetle’ starring ‘Cobra Kai’ actor Xolo Maridueña in the lead role. Initially slated for an HBO Max OTT release, the much-anticipated superhero movie was later targeted for an August 2023 theatrical release. And in a recent update, ‘Blue Beetle’ has now concluded its final filming schedule in Puerto Rico, which is also the hometown of the film’s director Angel Manuel Soto.

The ‘Blue Beetle’ movie is expected to be a superhero origin story of the titular protagonist Blue Beetle aka Jaime Reyes (essayed by Xolo Maridueña). The film’s plotline ostensibly revolves around a Mexican teenager Jaime Reyes, who accidentally finds an alien scarab called Blue Beetle, which gives the boy a superpowered exosuit, thereby granting him superspeed and superstrength amongst other incredible abilities.

Besides the main protagonist Xolo Maridueña, ‘Blue Beetle’ also features Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine as Jaime Reyes’ romantic interest, George Lopez as Reyes’ uncle, Belissa Escobedo as Reyes’ younger sister, Raoul Trujillo as Carapax the Indestructible Man, and Susan Sarandon as the main villain Victoria Kord, a role which was previously supposed to be played by Sharon Stone.

‘Blue Beetle’ would be the 16th film under the ambit of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Before ‘Blue Beetle’, there are a slew of DCEU films lined up for release. First one is the highly anticipated Dwayne Johnson starrer ‘Black Adam’ (21st October 2022) followed by ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ (21st December 2022), ‘Batgirl’ (HBO Max release), ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ (17th March 2023), and ‘The Flash’ (23rd June 2023).
