Prime Video has released the official trailer of Dead Ringers, starring Rachel Weisz in dual roles, after dropping the show’s teaser about a month ago. The upcoming series serves as a modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 flick of the same name.
The trailer displays Weisz in the dual roles of Beverly and Elliot Mantle, highly-skilled twin gynaecologists who have developed an intriguing but unhealthy relationship with each other since their respective medical journeys began. This scenario adds a sense of discomfort to all of their discoveries. Like the original film, the show will push the boundaries of medical science in the most twisted manner possible while tackling unbelievable concepts like reproducing a baby “out of nothing”.
Additionally, the twin sisters share everything, and we literally mean everything, including lovers, drugs, and impenitent cravings to achieve wacky but effective medical breakthroughs, bringing women’s healthcare into the limelight and challenging conventional medical ethics.
Weisz’s twin characters are the gender-flipped versions of the characters portrayed by Jeremy Irons in the 1988 film.
Canadian filmmaker Sean Durkin has helmed the series’ first two episodes and co-helmed the finale with Lauren Wolkstein.
Dead Ringers consists of six episodes, all of which will premiere on Prime Video on April 21. It stars Rachel Weisz, Michael Chernus, Poppy Liu, Britne Oldford, Jeremy Shamos, Emily Meade, and Jennifer Ehle. Stay tuned for more updates.
